Terms of Service

Effective date: March 25, 2026 · Last updated: March 25, 2026

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing the Screenbox website (screenbox.dev), downloading, installing, or using the Screenbox software ("Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Software or access the website.

Screenbox is developed and maintained by Dmytro Klymentiev ("Author," "we," "us," or "our"). The Software is available at github.com/dklymentiev/screenbox.

Description of the Software

Screenbox is an open-source software product that provides virtual desktop environments for AI agents. It runs as self-hosted Docker containers on your own infrastructure and supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI agent integration. The Software is designed to be deployed and operated entirely on infrastructure owned and controlled by the user.

Open-Source License

The Screenbox software is released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3.0 (AGPL-3.0). The full text of the license is available at gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html and in the LICENSE file included with the source code.

In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the AGPL-3.0 license, the AGPL-3.0 license shall prevail with respect to your rights to use, modify, and distribute the Software source code.

AGPL-3.0 Compliance Requirements

As a user of AGPL-3.0 licensed software, you must comply with the following obligations:

  • Source code availability: If you modify the Software and make it available to users over a network (e.g., as a service), you must make the complete corresponding source code of your modified version available to those users under the AGPL-3.0 license.
  • License preservation: Any copies or derivative works of the Software must retain the AGPL-3.0 license, copyright notices, and license headers.
  • Prominent notice of modifications: If you modify the Software, you must include prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date of any changes.
  • No additional restrictions: You may not impose any further restrictions on the rights granted by the AGPL-3.0 license.

Failure to comply with the AGPL-3.0 license terms automatically terminates your rights under that license.

No Warranty

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that the Software will meet your requirements or that any defects will be corrected.

User Responsibility

Because Screenbox is self-hosted software that runs on your own infrastructure, you are solely responsible for:

  • Infrastructure and security: Provisioning, configuring, maintaining, and securing the servers, networks, and Docker environments on which you deploy the Software.
  • Access control: Ensuring that only authorized users and AI agents can access your Screenbox deployment.
  • Data management: Backing up, protecting, and managing all data processed by or stored within your Screenbox instances.
  • Compliance: Ensuring that your use of the Software complies with all applicable local, national, and international laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Network security: Properly configuring firewalls, network isolation, and encryption for your deployment.
  • Updates and patches: Keeping the Software and its dependencies up to date with security patches and updates.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Software for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms. Specifically, you shall not:

  • Use the Software to conduct, facilitate, or support any illegal activities, including but not limited to fraud, hacking, unauthorized access to third-party systems, distribution of malware, or any activity that violates applicable law.
  • Use the Software to infringe upon the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or other rights of any third party.
  • Use the Software to generate, store, or distribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable under applicable law.
  • Use the Software to send unsolicited communications (spam), conduct phishing attacks, or engage in any form of social engineering.
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with any security features of the Software.
  • Misrepresent the origin of the Software or claim authorship of unmodified portions of the Software.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL DMYTRO KLYMENTIEV, THE CONTRIBUTORS, OR ANY AFFILIATED PARTIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities;
  • Business interruption or system downtime;
  • Cost of procurement of substitute goods or services;
  • Unauthorized access to, alteration of, or loss of your data or transmissions;
  • Any damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Software;

WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IN JURISDICTIONS THAT DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR LIABILITY, OUR LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE GREATEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Dmytro Klymentiev and any contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Software, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

Third-Party Software

Screenbox includes or depends on third-party open-source software components, each of which is subject to its own license terms. It is your responsibility to review and comply with the licenses of all third-party components included in or required by the Software. A list of dependencies and their licenses can be found in the project repository.

Modifications to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Software after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions of these Terms shall remain in full force and effect.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.
