Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 25, 2026 · Last updated: March 25, 2026
The short version: The screenbox.dev website collects no personal data, sets no cookies, and uses no analytics or tracking. The Screenbox software is self-hosted -- your data never leaves your infrastructure.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Screenbox, developed by Dmytro Klymentiev ("Author," "we," "us," or "our"), handles information in relation to the Screenbox website (screenbox.dev) and the Screenbox open-source software ("Software"). We are committed to transparency and to protecting user privacy.
Website: screenbox.dev
The Screenbox website is a static HTML site that serves informational content about the Software. The website:
- Collects no personal data. We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any other personally identifiable information through the website.
- Sets no cookies. The website does not set any cookies -- neither first-party nor third-party, neither functional nor tracking.
- Uses no analytics. We do not use Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, or any other analytics or tracking service.
- Uses no tracking pixels or beacons. There are no tracking pixels, web beacons, fingerprinting scripts, or similar technologies on the website.
- Does not require user accounts. There is no registration, login, or account system on the website.
- Loads no external resources. All assets, including fonts, are self-hosted. No third-party services are loaded.
Your web browser may transmit standard HTTP headers (such as your IP address and user-agent string) to our hosting provider when you access the website. Our hosting provider may retain standard server access logs in accordance with their own privacy policy. We do not access, process, or store this data ourselves.
Self-Hosted Software
Screenbox is self-hosted software that runs entirely on infrastructure owned and controlled by you. With respect to the Software:
- No data is transmitted to us. The Software does not phone home, send telemetry, transmit usage statistics, or make any network connections to screenbox.dev or any other server operated by us.
- No data is transmitted to third parties. The Software does not send any data to third-party services, analytics providers, or advertising networks.
- Your data stays on your infrastructure. All data generated by, processed by, or stored within your Screenbox deployment -- including desktop contents, screenshots, file system data, browser histories, and any data processed by AI agents -- remains entirely within your own infrastructure.
- You are the data controller. If you deploy Screenbox in a way that processes personal data (for example, if AI agents interact with services containing personal data), you are the sole data controller for that data. We have no access to it and no role in its processing.
Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, we do not collect, store, or process any of the following:
- Personal identification information (names, email addresses, phone numbers)
- Usage data or behavioral analytics
- Device information or browser fingerprints
- Location data
- Any data from your self-hosted Screenbox instances
- AI agent interactions, prompts, or outputs
- Desktop contents, screenshots, or files from your deployments
GitHub Interactions
The Screenbox source code is hosted on GitHub at github.com/dklymentiev/screenbox. If you interact with the project on GitHub (for example, by opening issues, submitting pull requests, or starring the repository), your interactions are governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement. We do not collect any additional data from these interactions beyond what GitHub makes publicly visible.
GDPR Compliance
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and Switzerland:
- No personal data processing: Because we do not collect or process any personal data through the website or the Software, the data processing provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) do not apply to our operations. There is no personal data for which to establish a legal basis, no data to provide access to, and no data to delete.
- No cross-border data transfers: Since we collect no data, there are no international data transfers to disclose.
- Self-hosted deployments: If you deploy Screenbox on your own infrastructure and it processes personal data of EU/EEA residents, you are responsible for ensuring your own GDPR compliance as the data controller. This includes implementing appropriate technical and organizational measures, establishing a legal basis for processing, honoring data subject rights, and conducting data protection impact assessments where required.
Children's Privacy
The website and Software are not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we do not collect personal information from anyone, this concern does not arise in practice.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Because we do not collect contact information, we cannot notify users directly of changes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
If we ever introduce data collection of any kind (for example, analytics on the website or telemetry in the Software), we will update this policy before doing so and will clearly disclose what data is collected and why.
